Adrian, MI — Over 1,000 fourth grade students from across Lenawee County are gearing up for a unique educational experience April 24 and 25 as part of Project RED (Rural Education Days), a dynamic, agriculture-focused event held at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds.
Sponsored by the Lenawee County Farm Bureau in collaboration with the Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD) and Lenawee County 4-H, this two-day event is designed to connect students with the agricultural world in a fun, hands-on field trip format. Every fourth-grade classroom in the county is invited to participate.
“Project RED provides a unique and valuable opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of where their food comes from, as well as the agricultural products and commodities grown in Michigan. Students will also have the chance to directly interact with farm animals, enhancing their learning experience. Additionally, many schools are able to integrate the field trip into their classroom lessons, strengthening their connection to local agriculture,” said Katie Cole, LISD Career Preparation Services Coordinator.
Participants will rotate through six interactive stations after an opening presentation on Michigan by-products. Highlights also include exhibits and educational boards from Lenawee County 4-H and agricultural organizations throughout the area.
Guiding the students throughout the event will be high school volunteers from the LISD TECH Center and JC/LISD Academy, who take on leadership roles as presenters and classroom guides.
This experience is especially relevant for Lenawee County, as agriculture remains one of Lenawee’s largest industries, and Project RED reinforces its significance to the local economy.
Project RED will take place at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds. For more information, please contact Katie Cole at (517) 265-1705 or by email at katie.cole@lisd.us.
