Lenawee Cradle to Career (C2C) is a community-comprised partnership working to ensure pathways of success for every child, every step of the way, cradle to career.

Mission - To ensure that everyone has pathways to reach their potential, cradle to career.

Vision - Every One, Every Step of the Way, Cradle to Career. The Child is at the Center of everything the school and community does.

Goals - Every child will:

Be PREPARED for school
Receive an educational experience that SUPPORTS their Academic, Social, Emotional, Physical and Mental Health needs.
GRADUATE and enter a career path, enlist or pursue further education.

Whole Child Model

In 2021, all 11 local school districts and the LISD adopted the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model, a holistic approach to a student’s education focusing on their health, safety and engagement in a school that is supportive and challenging. As the WSCC model is integrated into C2C, the partnership will expand the scope of its work by focusing on 10 components of the school, community, and family that impacts a child's development, setting them up for long-term success.

2021-2022 School Year Goals

Goal 1

All school districts in Lenawee County will select and begin to implement a Social and Emotional Learning Tier 1 Curriculum.

Goal 2

All school districts in Lenawee County will implement systems to increase the number of students that are screened and receive Mental Health services.

C2C's Role

The C2C partnership is supporting the goals of Lenawee County schools by developing strategies and interventions to:

Prepare children ages 0-5 socially and emotionally for school;
Build connections between the schools and community to help strengthen student physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing; and
Provide support to students as they graduate so they may successfully transition to college, military or work life.

C2C Networks

Three separate networks are actively working on these strategies and interventions:

The Kindergarten Readiness Network is developing a social media campaign to communicate, to parents and caregivers, the skills needed for a child to be ready for Kindergarten;
The Building Safe and Healthy Communities Network is developing strategies to increase supportive relationships between community members and students; and
The Planning For Success Network is building a post-graduation support system to assist with moving from school into the workforce, military, or continuing education.

Our Partners

Partners contribute to the success of Lenawee Cradle to Career in various ways, including:

actively promoting the work of C2C;
providing access to data, meeting space, or other essential information in measuring and planning the success of C2C interventions;
actively engaging in a specific Success Network, working toward a desired outcome for the county; and/or
providing in-kind personnel and/or fundraising to sustain the partnership.

Cradle to Career (C2C) History

In summer 2013, Lenawee County superintendents agreed to work toward Collective Impact, utilizing the support of StriveTogether, a national non-profit organization committed to build the capacity of communities to dramatically improve educational outcomes. This began the effort to move educational impact from individual toward collective work. The first three years were marked by developing a cross-sector partnership with community stakeholders, identifying and selecting community outcomes, embracing a continuous improvement process for the work, and establishing the support for the management and operations of a community partnership.

In Fall 2016, the Lenawee Cradle to Career (C2C) partnership facilitated an education-focused effort to create a Lenawee County Strategic Plan. The LISD Board of Education sanctioned this planning effort. Fifty-three community members, recommended by district superintendents and the C2C Community Leadership Team, committed to the four-day (15 1⁄2 hours) planning process.

Participants represented the breadth of education perspectives including public, private, homeschool, charter, and virtual schools in addition to representatives from faith-based organizations, community agencies, students, parents, and the business community.

The result was the following five desired outcomes providing clarity and direction to the work of each C2C Student Success Network:

The percentage of students scoring at benchmark for kindergarten readiness will increase from 50% to 85% by 2022, as measured by the BRIGANCE assessments, administered by local districts in the spring before students enter kindergarten.
The percentage of students proficient in reading by the end of grade 3 will increase from 48.8% to 55%, as measured by the M-STEP 3rd Grade Assessment in spring 2020.
The learners of Lenawee County will be given opportunity to access and master content and skills through individualized (customized) learner-centered programming.
The percentage of students graduating from high school earning a certificate of completion will increase from 86% to 100% by August 2023, as measured by the five-year cohort of the Class of 2023, as reported by the Michigan Department of Education.
The percentage of Lenawee County high school graduates enrolling in their post-secondary choices within the first year after high school graduation will increase from 66% to 73% by the end of 2019, using data from the National Student Clearinghouse and workforce databases.

In Fall 2017, the school boards of every district in Lenawee County, including the LISD and Lenawee Christian School, passed a resolution in support of the five Lenawee Cradle to Career countywide desired outcomes.

In 2021, C2C began the process of integrating the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model into the partnership's work. The WSCC model is a holistic approach to a student’s education focusing on their health, safety and engagement in a school that is supportive and challenging. This shift toward the WSCC model. All 11 local school districts and the LISD adopted the WSCC model and began implementing systems within that framework during the 2021-2022 school year.
