Health Care Careers

Health Care is one of the fastest growing career fields and there is a constant need for trained professionals. Students who take this program will gain valuable skills and knowledge they will use to further their career exploration in the health care setting. Health Care Careers students often have an advantage over competing applicants for college and job placements due to the exposure they receive.  This program is a great place to experience the many doors that health care can lead you.

Program Description

Students will be given the chance to explore healthcare careers including nursing, x-ray technician, respiratory therapy, veterinary science, physical therapy, etc.  Students will learn CPR, how to obtain a full set of vital signs (including manual blood pressure), basic anatomy and physiology, and a variety of medical terminology. In the second semester, students have the opportunity to participate in clinical experiences at hospitals and nearby health care facilities, where they are able to experience what it would be like as a health care professional in that health care setting.  Students will also participate in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) leadership conference, where they could earn a chance to go to the state or even the national level.

To Be Successful

Students need a 2.5 G.P.A. or higher, strong science, English, communication, and research skills, as well as a compassion for others. Students are required to pass a physical, TB test, criminal background check, and must be current with Hepatitis B, Tetanus, MMR, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccines before going on clinical experiences.
