Motorcycle Safety
Do you dream of riding a motorcycle? Completing either of two classes will help you obtain a motorcycle endorsement on your driver’s license.

The motorcycle safety education courses are conducted with State funds from a motorcycle safety grant administered by the Michigan Department of State. You must attend all class sessions and pass all written and riding skills tests to successfully complete the class.

Basic Rider Course (BRC)
If you have never ridden a motorcycle, this class will teach you how. You will learn the mental and physical skills needed to ride on public roads and to become licensed. Two-wheeled, manual-shift-and-clutch motorcycles provided.
The Basic Rider Course is comprised of both an online portion (completed prior to the first night of class) and the in-person class days. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic eCourse will provide students with the basic classroom knowledge to begin riding the motorcycle. Designed for beginning riders, ages 16 and up, this course focuses on the development of basic riding skills: clutch and throttle coordination, straight-line riding, braking, turning, and shifting. Successful completion of this course and its knowledge and skills test, which consists of approximately 18 hours of classroom and hands-on riding instruction, will result in a riding test waiver by the Secretary of State. Prerequisite: ability to ride a bicycle.
Requirements: You must have a valid email address and driver’s license on file with Adult Learning Services. You must complete the online eCourse prior to the course start date and bring the completion certificate to the first class session. The link to the eCourse will be distributed by Adult Learning Services via email.

This one-day course is an intermediate-level training that expands on elements of the Basic Rider Course with knowledge (written) and skill (riding) tests.
