Parents As Teachers

Your child was born to learn.

 Are you ready?

Mission

To provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

Parents As Teachers is an international early childhood parent education and family support organization serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten.  The service model is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent education accessible to all families.

Core Values

  • Parents are their children's first and most influential teachers.
  • The early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and in life.
  • Established and emerging research should be the foundation of parent education and family support curricula, training, materials and services.
  • All young children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of any demographic, geographic or economic considerations.
  • An understanding and appreciation of the history and traditions of diverse cultures is essential in serving families.

Research indicates there are "windows of opportunity" during the early years of a child's life when learning takes place more easily.  Through collaboration with the team of neuroscientists from Washington University Schools of Medicine in St. Louis, Parents As Teachers developed a comprehensive neuroscience-enriched curriculum.
